Epoxies were among the first widely used powders in the coating industry. They are highly durable, providing excellent hardness and exhibiting superior chemical and corrosion resistance compared to other available powders. One advantage of epoxy powders is their ease of application and the availability of a wide range of cure schedules. They adhere exceptionally well to metal surfaces, especially when proper pretreatments like phosphate coating or sandblasting are applied to enhance adhesion.

However, epoxy powders have a notable drawback when exposed to exterior conditions. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause fading and chalking, resulting in a degradation of the surface. Consequently, epoxies are more suitable for indoor applications where they can maintain their performance and appearance.

It's worth mentioning that epoxies are commonly used as primers due to their strong adhesion and corrosion resistance. By utilizing epoxies as a base coat under a different type of paint, their strengths can be maximized while their weaknesses, particularly their susceptibility to weathering, can be mitigated.
